Browser Extension Privacy Policy

1. What the extension is

Save to Sagely is a browser extension that lets you save a recipe from the page you're looking at into your Sagely recipe library, from the toolbar button or the right-click menu, on a recipe website or an Instagram post. Nothing is saved until you click.

2. What it reads, and when

The extension only reads page content when you actively trigger it, by clicking the toolbar button or choosing “Save recipe to Sagely” from the right-click menu. Two small scripts load automatically in the background: one on instagram.com pages, and one on Sagely's own import page. Neither reads or sends anything until you act; they exist only so the click can work instantly once you do.

When you trigger a save, the extension reads, from the current page only:

• the page's web address,
• the recipe text, caption or title on the page,
• the author or account name shown with the recipe, if there is one,
• the main image URL,
• structured recipe data (Schema.org JSON-LD), if the page has it.

If you right-click a link and choose “Save recipe to Sagely”, the extension reads nothing from the page: it sends only that link's address to the Sagely import page, which fetches the recipe itself.

3. Where that data goes

The captured recipe is held briefly in your browser's local extension storage, then handed to the Sagely import page (sagely.kitchen/recipe/import) in the new tab the extension opens, so Sagely can save it to your library. That is the only destination. The extension itself sends data to no other server: it does not call any API of its own. Once the recipe reaches the Sagely import page, it's covered by Sagely's main Privacy Policy, the same as a recipe you imported any other way.

The extension does not itself handle signing in: it opens the import page in your existing browser tab, so if you're already signed in to Sagely there, the import continues in your normal Sagely session. It holds no password or access token of its own.

4. What it does not do

• No analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels or fingerprinting.
• No browsing-history collection: it does not watch the pages you visit.
• It does not sell, share or transmit your data to any third party.
• No advertising.

5. Permissions, and why each is needed

The extension asks for exactly these permissions, and no more:

• activeTab + scripting: read the recipe off the page you're on at the moment you click. Nothing more.
• storage: briefly hold the captured recipe so it can be handed to the Sagely import tab.
• contextMenus: add the “Save recipe to Sagely” right-click option.
• Host access to instagram.com: read the caption and images of an Instagram post you choose to save.
• Host access to sagely.kitchen: deliver the captured recipe to your Sagely import page.

6. Your data, your control

Recipes you save land in your Sagely account, governed by Sagely's main Privacy Policy. Uninstalling the extension removes its own locally stored data; it does not touch your Sagely account or the recipes already saved there.
